The BIOEFFECT GREENHOUSE

From seed to skincare

Iceland is a country of challenging extremes which requires Icelanders to be persistent and adaptable. Iceland’s stunning landscape – glaciers, lava fields and volcanoes – combined with harsh dark winters, make it difficult to grow plants. But luckily it is also extremely geothermally active and that has enabled us to grow plants all year round in greenhouses powered by sustainable geothermal energy.

The hi-tech BIOEFFECT Greenhouse is nestled in the middle of the lava fields of Reykjanes UNESCO Global Geopark in the southwest of Iceland. There we can nurture up to 130.000 bioengineered barley plants, producing our remarkable key ingredient EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor) which is the skin’s anti-aging protein. We grow the plants for 30 days in the carbon neutral Greenhouse where we nurture the plants in volcanic pumice from the old volcano Hekla and uniquely pure Icelandic water.

Water is one of the purest and most abundant of Iceland’s natural resources. Geologically filtered through layers of inert volcanic lava over time meaning it is as pure as possible, no need for any chemical purification. Water makes up for approximately 64% of our skin and is necessary for all aspects of health. The Icelandic water is very soft and is less likely to leave a drying or irritating mineral deposit on skin and hair. That same water is used in our products to ensure the purest formulation. The Icelandic water and the EGF from our barley plants is what makes BIOEFFECT unique.

Take the Bioeffect Tour
